Web companies alerted to DNS protocols' impact on privacy by Spanish watchdog

( November 29, 2019, 17:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Spanish data-protection authority today issued recommendations to software developers, network administrators, providers of domain name systems (DNS) and Internet providers about the impact of the use of DNS protocols on people's privacy. A new protocol, called DNS over Https, or DoH, proposed by Mozilla, Google and Cloudflare, is meant to improve privacy by making it harder for third parties to track users on the web. But DoH "can give a false sense of security, since it is possible to identify the use of DNS queries through Https with different techniques such as TLS fingerprinting," the Spanish regulator said, among other conclusions, in a statement today.Statement follows.
