China's Baidu, Pony.ai win permits to provide driverless ride-hailing services in Beijing

( March 17, 2023, 09:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chinese autonomous driving technology companies Baidu Apollo and Pony.ai have won permits to provide fully driverless ride-hailing services — with no humans in the driving seat nor safety operators — in the Chinese capital of Beijing. Baidu's Apollo service will deploy 10 fully autonomous vehicles in the designated areas of the Yizhuang Economic Development Zone, the Chinese ride-hailing giant said in a statement. Last year, Baidu Apollo was granted a permit to operate similar services in central Wuhan and southwestern Chongqing.
