Evening Standard, Independent owner's stake-sales probe runs until August, CMA says

( June 28, 2019, 10:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary:  International Media Company's completed acquisition of a 30 percent stake in Lebedev Holdings and Scalable's purchase of a stake in Independent Digital News and Media are being probed by the UK Competition and Markets Authority. The inquiry will run until Aug. 23, the competition watchdog said in a statement today. Communications regulator Ofcom is also probing the transaction under the same timeline. The UK government has said it is intervening in the deal, citing public-interest grounds of accurate presentation of news and free expression of opinion.Statement follows....
