UK ‘consent or pay’ guidance goes beyond EU to cover publishers, social media

While the new ICO guidelines are much broader, they replicate some of the requirements seen in a 2024 European Data Protection Board opinion on the use of such models by large tech platforms.Social media platforms and news publishers last week saw the UK’s privacy regulator cast a wider net than its EU counterpart, in hopes to provide comprehensive guidance on “consent or pay” models for behavioral advertising (see here)....
