Chile's Codelco, SQM joint venture gets conditional clearance in China

( November 10, 2025, 09:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s State Administration for Market Regulation on Monday conditionally cleared the joint venture between Chile’s state-owned mining company Codelco and chemical producer SQM. The regulator found that the deal could restrict competition in China’s imported lithium carbonate market, where SQM is already the dominant supplier, and imposed behavioral remedies to ensure continued supply to Chinese customers on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. The commitments require the companies to maintain existing contracts, guarantee minimum annual supply volumes and price ceilings, maintain independent competitiveness, and submit compliance reports every six months for 10 years.
