Australian competition regulator to focus on implementation of merger law changes

( November 29, 2024, 00:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Following the passage of landmark merger amendment bill, the Australian competition watchdog is set to prioritize the implementation of the new mandatory, suspensory regime. In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission welcomed the parliament’s decision to pass the Treasury Laws Amendment (Mergers and Acquisitions Reform) Bill 2024 late on Thursday night and said that it was intensifying its focus on implementation. The statement added that to ensure the overall success of the regime, the regulator would be consulting with businesses and other stakeholders to offer clarity on timeframes and processes. The new merger regime will come into effect from Jan. 1, 2026, while merger parties can start using the new merger regime on a voluntary basis from July 1, 2025....
