Former Google engineer hit with new US indictment for AI trade secret theft

( February 5, 2025, 00:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Federal prosecutors filed a superseding indictment against Linwei Ding for stealing Google trade secrets related to artificial intelligence to benefit Chinese companies. The superseding indictment delineates seven categories of trade secrets Ding allegedly stole, including Google's custom designed TPU chips, TPU machines and TPU systems, and documents that contained details of the design, performance, and operation of Google’s custom GPU machines and GPU systems.  The indictment also revises the charges against Ding; he is now charged with seven counts of trade secret theft — one count for each category of trade secrets — and seven counts of economic espionage.
