Privacy policies of Australian real-estate agents, car rentals to face review

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said it will examine the privacy policies of about 60 entities across six sectors — rental and property, chemists and pharmacists, licensed venues, car rentals, car dealerships, and pawnbrokers and second-hand dealers — to ensure they comply with stricter requirements. Non-compliant businesses could face compliance or infringement notices, with penalties of up to A$66,000 ($43,760) under new enforcement powers introduced through the 2024 privacy law reforms, the regulator said.The statement is attached....
