Consumer groups tell US Supreme Court at-will removal would weaken federal agencies

( November 13, 2025, 19:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Forty national, state, and local consumer, privacy and open markets groups filed a brief in support of Rebecca Kelly Slaughter’s challenge before the US Supreme Court to her firing from the Federal Trade Commission, arguing that for-cause removal protections are essential for agencies to sustain expert, evenhanded governance in the public interest. “A conclusion by this court that Congress has no power to insulate certain administrative agencies from at-will removal will undermine these principles and expose the American public and markets to a heavily politicized and industry-influenced administration of laws—and could pose significant risks to Americans’ safety and stability,” they said.See attached file. ...
