Google defends child location tracking service in South Korean court appeal

By Jenny Lee ( January 16, 2025, 08:29 GMT | Insight) -- Google Korea argued before a Seoul court today that its child location tracking service "Family Link" complies with South Korean law by obtaining parental consent, challenging regulatory sanctions that demand additional consent from children being monitored. At the first appellate hearing, Google's lawyers presented a defense aimed at overturning a 3 million won (about $2,000) fine and corrective orders imposed by the Korea Communications Commission in 2023 and upheld by a lower court last year. Google Korea argued before a Seoul court today that its child location tracking service "Family Link" complies with South Korean law by obtaining parental consent, challenging regulatory sanctions that demand additional consent from children being monitored....
