TikTok hit by Texas with new kids' online safety claims

( January 9, 2025, 21:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TikTok has been hit with a second children's online safety suit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, this one claiming the popular social media app violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices — Consumer Protection Act (DTPA) by displaying content inappropriate for minors. "Specifically, to deceive parents and maintain its current age rating in major app stores, TikTok falsely represented that the presence of graphic videos depicting drugs, nudity, alcohol, and profanity was 'infrequent' and 'mild.' But an investigation found a virtually endless stream of videos on such topics easily accessible to minors," Paxton said in a press statement on the filing of the lawsuit....
