South Korean court administration hit with privacy fine after massive data leak

( January 9, 2025, 04:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's National Court Administration has been hit with fines totaling 213 million won (about $146,000) by the country's privacy watchdog after hackers stole 1,014GB of court documents through an unsecured network port, exposing the personal information of up to 18,000 individuals. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, the breach occurred because the agency left network ports open between internal and external networks for convenience, failed to encrypt documents containing resident registration numbers and used easily guessable default passwords for administrator accounts. Despite detecting malicious files in February 2023 and confirming the data breach in April, the agency waited until Dec. 7 to report the incident and post a notice on its website....
