US CFPB Director Chopra fired, Senators Scott and Warren say

( February 1, 2025, 19:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- Senator Tim Scott, the chair of the Republican-controlled Senate Banking Committee, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on that committee, said US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra has been fired by President Donald Trump. Chopra also is out as an ex officio director of the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Chopra's term as CFPB director expires in October 2026, but Trump has the authority to fire him at will.
