Hong Kong privacy regulator reports increase in data breaches for 2024

( January 23, 2025, 08:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong's privacy regulator received 203 data breach notifications in 2024, a 30 percent rise from the previous year, including 61 hacking incidents, according to the office of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data's annual report. The office conducted 400 compliance checks; handled 442 doxxing cases; issued 194 cessation notices to remove 5,302 messages across 20 platforms; and launched 118 criminal investigations. It also published findings on a "DarkHack" ransomware attack on humanitarian organization Oxfam in July 2024, which potentially exposed the data of 550,000 data subjects.The statement follows:...
