Google's Android, Chrome should be divested to remedy search monopoly, advocacy group says

( November 19, 2024, 17:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google should be subjected to structural remedies that involve the divestiture of key assets such as Android and Chrome to ensure standalone competition, as well as compulsory licensing of its web index, search algorithms, and AI models to lower barriers for rivals, the American Economic Liberties Project said in a report as the US Department of Justice readies its final proposal ahead of a remedy trial in the search monopolization case. Google should also be made to unbundle its search and advertising businesses along with having to comply with behavioral remedies such as revenue-sharing agreements for default search placement, protection against workplace retaliation for whistleblowers, and measures to prevent further abuse of arbitration agreements and destruction of records, the report said.Statement follows below.
