Scientists file amended US antitrust claims against academic journal publishers

( November 15, 2024, 23:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A group of scientists filed an amended US antitrust complaint against the six largest for-profit publishers of peer-reviewed scholarly journals, alleging that they conspired to unlawfully appropriate billions of dollars that would have otherwise funded scientific research. According to the complaint, the publishers agreed not to compensate scholars, not to compete for manuscripts by requiring scholars to submit to only one journal at a time, and to prohibit scholars from freely sharing the scientific advancements described in submitted manuscripts while those manuscripts are under peer review.See attached file. ...
