Google search is subject to Canadian privacy law, Federal Court rules

( July 8, 2021, 16:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google's search engine is subject to Canada's national privacy law, the Personal Information and Electronic Document Act (PIPEDA), Associate Chief Justice Jocelyne Gagné determined in a Canada Federal Court ruling.  The decision follows a request by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada on whether PIPEDA applies to potential "Right to Be Forgotten" claims under Canadian law. Gagné said her ruling "does not determine the outcome of the Complainant’s complaint, the power of the [Privacy] Commissioner to recommend deindexing, the constitutionality of PIPEDA, or any other non-reference question that is better left to the Commissioner’s proceedings."See attached order....
