EC Statement: Internal Market: Commission acts to protect policy-holders and to ensure level playing field in the Bulgarian health insurance sector

( January 26, 2012, 11:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has warned Bulgaria it could be referred to the European Court of Justice if it does not ensure voluntary health insurance undertakings abide with EU regulatory law. The Bulgarian Health Insurance Act forbids the undertakings from investing in foreign assets without the approval of the country's Financial Supervision Commission, which the executive also said breaks rules on the free movement of capital in the EU. Full press release follows below...
