States, US DOJ say Google choking antitrust case by limiting depositions on enlarged claims

( January 30, 2021, 03:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice and a group of states said Google is trying to "dilute" their search monopoly antitrust case by allowing only five additional depositions despite significantly enlarged claims filed by 38 attorneys general led by Colorado last month. "Google’s proposal would significantly constrain the discovery in the US Action, and undermine all Plaintiffs’ efforts to prepare their case," the DOJ and the states said in a shared filing. "Google justifies its position by saying that the cases are virtually identical. This is incorrect. Although the cases involve substantial overlapping facts and claims, there are also important differences. For example, the Colorado Plaintiffs make allegations regarding Google Search Ads 360 that are not in the US Action and also do not adopt all of the market definitions in the US Action."See attached filing....
