US judge denies Hermitage motion to recover $1.4 million from BakerHostetler in Russian tax fraud-related case

( March 30, 2018, 22:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US District Judge William H. Pauley III denied Hermitage Capital's motion to recover $1.4 million it spent trying to have its former counsel, BakerHostetler, disqualified from representing a Russian firm connected to the Magnitsky tax fraud case. Hermitage had retained BakerHostetler after Russian officials stole Hermitage business documents that were subsequently used in the tax fraud. When BakerHostetler later represented Russian firm Prevezon in a US forfeiture case predicated on the tax fraud, Hermitage tried to have the law firm disqualified, and then sought the $1.4 million it spent in the effort. Pauley, in denying Hermitage's motion to recover the fees, said Hermitage had not shown that BakerHostetler acted in bad faith. Please see attached document....
