SEC charges Houston pastor, financial planner in alleged scheme to defraud elderly investors

( March 30, 2018, 15:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Securities and Exchange Commission has charged Kirbyjon Caldwell, senior pastor at Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, and Gregory Alan Smith, a self-described financial planner, for engaging in a scheme to defraud elderly investors by selling them interests in defunct, prerevolutionary Chinese bonds. Caldwell and Smith raised at least $3.4 million from 29 mostly elderly investors, keeping $1.8 million for personal expenses and sending remaining funds to offshore individuals, the SEC said.Statement follows in full.
