Brazil's National Data Protection Authority publishes study on bill on digital content moderation

( April 28, 2023, 15:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Brazilian data protection authority has published a preliminary study on a draft bill that aims to hold digital platforms accountable for their content moderation, according to a statement. The bill, PL 2630/2020, proposes that digital platforms, including messaging apps, have operations and a legal advisor in Brazil, and comply with the proposed law under penalty of sanctions. The National Data Protection Authority, or ANPD, said that it "recognizes the need and importance of building a responsive regulation, which considers the impacts and risks involved, in order to establish the necessary conditions for the guarantee of rights in the digital environment."ANPD press release follows in Portuguese.
