Don't ban noncompete clauses, employers and tech giants urge Australian government

By James Panichi ( July 26, 2024, 09:49 GMT | Insight) -- The Australian government should proceed with caution in regulating noncompete clauses in employment contracts because there’s no research to suggest that they stop workers from changing jobs in Australia, the country’s peak industry body has said. According to the Business Council of Australia, claims that noncompetes reduce labor mobility aren’t supported by the analysis. Tech companies including AWS, Ebay and Google have also argued against the regulation of non-compete clauses, saying that they’re required to protect intellectual property.There’s no research to suggests noncompete clauses in employment contracts are preventing workers from changing jobs in Australia and the government should proceed with caution in regulating them, the country’s peak industry body has said....
