NGO demands answers from KFTC over delay in probe of alleged discriminatory pricing by telecom firms

( December 6, 2019, 08:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's Citizen’s Coalition for Economic Justice has demanded that the Korea Fair Trade Commission explain its recent decision to extend the ongoing probe of the country's three major telecommunications companies — KT, LG Uplus and SK Broadband — over alleged discrimination against local Internet companies in the pricing for network-access fees. The Seoul-based NGO said the regulator notified the probe extension on Dec. 4 for unspecified reasons. The group has accused the regulator of deliberately delaying the probe and demanded reasons for the delay, as well as details of plans for the probe onward by Dec. 13. The group said the regulator has had plenty of time to investigate since it received the complaint from the group on April 23. The regulator launched a formal investigation into the matter, called in the complainant and the accused companies, as well as related parties, for interviews, and collected relevant documents and material so far, the group said.The statement, in Korean, is attached. ...
