New York iPhone user seeks injunction against Apple’s alleged monopolization of US performance smartphone market

( July 18, 2024, 23:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Plaintiff Ira Polly filed a proposed US class action against Apple, accusing the company of using anticompetitive techniques to lock consumers and developers into its ecosystem, thwart nascent competitive threats, and build a “moat” around the iPhone that would ensure monopoly profits for years to come. The complaint filed in the US District of New Jersey said the most immediate and obvious costs of Apple’s anticompetitive conduct directly affect its own customers. Apple inflates the price for buying and using iPhones while preventing the development of features like alternative app stores, innovative super apps, cloud streaming games, and secure texting that would drive consumer value, innovation, and improved user experience. "Plaintiff and other class members have borne these harms and will continue to experience them unless this Court stops Apple’s monopolistic conduct through an injunction," it said. "Apple’s 'moat' around its smartphone monopoly is wide and deep: it uses a similar playbook to maintain its monopoly through many other products and services."See attached document....
