Global temperatures hit 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels for 12th consecutive month

( July 8, 2024, 10:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: June 2024 was warmer globally than any previous June on record and 1.5 degrees Celsius hotter than in pre-industrial times, Europe’s Copernicus Climate Change Service C3S has said. This means that the world hit or surpassed the 1.5 degrees Celsius climate change red line for the twelfth month in a row and that the global-average temperature for the past year is the highest on record at 1.64 degrees above the pre-industrial average. This is “more than a statistical oddity and it highlights a large and continuing shift in our climate,” the C3S Director Carlo Buntoempo said. The 1.5 degrees Celsius limit is fully broken only if confirmed as a 20- or 30-year average.Statement follows. Additional documents are attached....
