Singtel Optus remains a focus of Australian privacy watchdog over data breach

( September 29, 2022, 07:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singtel Optus’ response to a recent data breach is continuing to be investigated by Australia’s privacy watchdog, which announced today that it was seeking information to ensure that the telecommunications company was complying with the country’s mandatory-notification regime. In a statement released today, the Office of the Australian Information Commission reiterated the fact that Optus had a responsibility to provide affected customers with all relevant information, under the provisions of the Notifiable Data Breach rules. Commissioner Angelene Falk also said that the review of Australia’s 1988 Privacy Act will be an opportunity to ensure that the notification rules “shift the dial to place more responsibility on organisations who are the custodians of Australians' data.”OAIC updated statement on Optus data breach...
