Microsoft beefs up privacy transparency for business cloud users

( November 18, 2019, 10:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Microsoft has said it will increase its data-protection responsibilities when it provides enterprise cloud services. Writing in a blog today, chief privacy officer Julie Brill said the US company will clarify that it assumes the role of a data controller — as opposed to processor — when it processes data for "specified administrative and operational purposes incidental to providing the cloud services covered by this contractual framework, such as Azure, Office 365, Dynamics and Intune." This update to Microsoft's terms — which followed work with the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, and which will apply globally from early 2020 — reflects its "commitment to be accountable under GDPR to ensure that the data is handled in a compliant way," Brill said.Statement follows....
