South Korean regulator to conduct survey on OTT market to examine competition issues

( April 3, 2023, 07:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean competition regulator has announced a new market survey to examine competition issues in the over-the-top (OTT) media-service market. The Korea Fair Trade Commission will send a written questionnaire to major OTT platform operators, seeking information about contractual relations between OTT service operators and their business users, as well as trade terms. In a separate commissioned study, the regulator plans to examine the market structure and possible competition issues among OTT service operators. The regulator said the South Korean OTT market, where global players such as Netflix and Disney Plus compete with local operators such as Tving, Wave and Watcha, has seen a surge of viewers since the pandemic and has had a greater influence on related industries such as content and broadcasting.
