Australia updates business name registration rules to avoid public misperceptions

( July 20, 2015, 09:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian Government has updated business name registration rules to ensure that new applications are appropriately vetted. The new Business Names Registration (Availability of Names) Determination 2015 specifies the new rules for determining whether a business name is identical to another, whether it is undesirable, or whether it contains a restricted word or expression. Under the changes, the list of expressions considered “nearly identical” will be expanded and rules around common-name terminologies will be clarified and simplified. These updates aim to reduce the risk of business names being registered where the public may be misled by nearly identical business names....
