Google wins dismissal of US children's-data privacy claims against YouTube, channel owners

( December 22, 2020, 00:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A US federal judge has granted Google's motion to dismiss privacy claims over YouTube's collection of children's data, claims that also apply to defendants Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network Studios, ChuChu TV Studios, CookieSwirlC, DreamWorks Animation, DreamWorks Animation Television, Hasbro, Hasbro Studios, Mattel, Remka, RTR Production, RFR Entertainment and Pocketwatch. US District Judge Beth Labson Freeman in San Jose, California, found that common law privacy and other state law claims by plaintiff Nichole Hubbard were pre-empted by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
