Belgian DPA issued EUR885,000 in fines in 2020, including Google, dating app sanctions

( June 11, 2021, 08:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Belgian Data Protection Authority issued 83 decisions in 2020, imposing 78 sanctions, including 19 fines worth 885,000 euros ($1.08 million), of which 57,000 euros were annulled by the Market Court, the authority said in its annual report. The biggest fine, worth 600,000 euros, was against Google for failing to respect a citizen's right to be forgotten. It also imposed a 50,000-euro penalty against dating website Twoo, owned by the Match Group, for implementing an "invite contacts" feature without a legal basis. The DPA launched 149 investigations in 2020, up from 85 in 2019, in areas related to direct marketing, the Covid-19 pandemic and surveillance cameras.Full press release below (in French).
