Japan plans to both tighten and loosen data protection rules, but shelved administrative fine decision

The sticking points of administrative fines and group lawsuits will be discussed by a panel to be established soon, said the Personal Information Protection Commission. The ongoing triannual review of the data-protection law may lead to an amendment next year, an official told reporters today.
