Canadian solar products should be exempted from US safeguard measures, Washington lawmakers urge trade chief Tai

( June 9, 2021, 19:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US should ease safeguard restrictions on solar cell imports from Canada to help spur more domestic solar panel production and investment, Democratic lawmakers representing Washington state said in a letter to US trade chief Katherine Tai. "Eliminating the safeguard tariff on Canadian solar modules and increasing the [tariff-rate quota] on solar cells would boost solar manufacturing jobs in Washington state. These actions would also support the Biden administration’s forward-leaning policies on clean energy and climate change and help strengthen U.S.-Canada trade relations," said Representatives Suzan DelBene and Rick Larsen and Senator Patty Murray.Statement and letter follow below:...
