Vietnam's draft telco-law amendment would complicate compliance for online-service providers, tech industry group says

( March 29, 2023, 08:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vietnam’s draft amendment of its Telecommunication Law contains overly broad definitions and provisions that could make compliance practically impossible for millions of online-service providers, the Asia Internet Coalition told the government in a submission. The industry group, which represents major tech companies such as Google, Meta Platforms, Twitter and Amazon, said the draft also includes unnecessary data-access obligations, as well as burdensome requirements for over-the-top service providers to form commercial agreements with telecommunications companies and establish representative offices. It said the draft also has provisions that overlap with requirements already in the laws on competition and protection of personal information. The submission is attached. ...
