Google sanctioned in US Play Store antitrust litigation

( March 28, 2023, 20:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google didn't take reasonable steps to preserve electronically stored information that should have been retained in anticipation of antitrust litigation, a US federal judge ruled. “The court concludes that Google intended to subvert the discovery process, and that chat evidence was ‘lost with the intent to prevent its use in litigation’ and ‘with the intent to deprive another party of the information’s use in the litigation,’” District Judge James Donato said in an order granting sanctions. Donato determined that Google should pay for costs incurred in plaintiffs’ pursuit of sanctions.
