Broadband providers have access to rich vein of customers' private data, advocacy organizations tell Maine federal judge

Walker that without regulation, privacy-conscious Internet users are "generally out of luck" when it comes to keeping their information private from Internet service providers. "As gatekeepers to the Internet — an essential communications network and arguably the world’s richest such network — ISPs are privy to a great deal of information regarding their customers’ private online activities and communications. Everything a person does online must be funneled through the customer’s ISP," write Access Now and the Open Technology Institute in an amicus brief with the court, where industry associations are challenging Maine's broadband-provider privacy law.See document below....
