Clean-car sales highly unbalanced across the EU, automotive industry says

( October 29, 2019, 09:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The consumer uptake of zero- and low-emission cars such as battery electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid electric passenger cars — as well as those fueled by hydrogen or natural gas — is following a “highly uneven pattern” across EU countries, the bloc’s car industry group ACEA has said. “Although the average EU market share of alternatively powered vehicles is going up, the huge discrepancies across Europe are extremely worrisome,” said Eric-Mark Huitema, the director general of the association, making reference to marked east-west as well as north-south distinctions. The industry group also stressed that sales of electric vehicles are highly correlated with a country’ standards of living, calling on governments for “more meaningful and sustainable incentive schemes” to stimulate sales EU-wide.Statement follows:...
