Spanish levies to finance public broadcasting aren't within scope of EU rules

( July 1, 2019, 15:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A Spanish annual financial contribution, levied on telecom providers to finance public broadcasting, doesn't fall within the scope of the EU Directive on authorization of electronic communications networks and services, according to an order today published by the Court of Justice of the EU. The case stems from a preliminary question from Spain's high court, where the national divisions of Telefónica Móviles, Orange and Vodafone challenged an obligation under Spanish law to make an annual contribution to public broadcaster RTVE.Order follows.
