Uber called the levy “damaging” for being the the highest tax of its kind in Australia, and rejected suggestions by West Australian Transport Minister Rita Saffioti that Uber trim its 25 percent service fee to absorb the impact of the levy. Other states such as New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia have decided on compensation fund-raising measures by introducing a flat fee of A$1 ($0.77) per ride. Saffioti said the government expects to raise A$120 million ($922,200) over four years through the temporary levy, which also applies to the taxi industry....
