India releases draft guidelines on data anonymization for public consultation

( September 1, 2022, 06:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology released draft guidelines on the Anonymization of Data earlier this week, and has invited public comments until Sept. 21. The guidelines, which are a part of its e-governance guidelines, recommend that all e-governance projects apply data anonymization as a norm and identify and record exceptions. While the guidelines target entities involved in the processing of personal information in e-governance projects, the document said they can also be used by private sector organizations that process personal data. The draft advocates the use of privacy-enhancing techniques to anonymize data to reduce risks emanating from the processing of large-scale personally attributable data. The guidelines are dated July 20, before the government announced the withdrawal of the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2021 on Aug. 3. The statement follows and the guidelines are attached....
