Canal Plus wins appeal against Paramount pay-TV settlement at EU's top court

( December 9, 2020, 09:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: French media and film studio Canal Plus has won its appeal at the EU's top court against Hollywood movie studio Paramount's antitrust commitments to the European Commission. The Court of Justice has set aside a lower-tier judgment from 2018 which rejected Canal Plus's appeal. The settlement rendered the contractual rights of third parties including Canal Plus “meaningless” and thereby “infringed the principle of proportionality, with the result that the decision at issue must be annulled,” judges found.Press release follows.
