Alfresa, Suzuken and Toho Pharmaceutical face criminal charges in Japan over pharma bid-rigging

( December 9, 2020, 01:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Japan Fair Trade Commission today filed a criminal complaint against Japan’s top pharmaceutical wholesalers Alfresa, Suzuken and Toho Pharmaceutical for their suspected involvement in rigging bids for drugs to be used in 57 hospitals operated by a healthcare organization. The JFTC’s criminal complaint also names seven employees from the three companies involved in bids and price negotiations. The complaint alleges that the seven individuals, along with employees from an unnamed pharma company, met in June 2016 to arrange the tender for drugs to be used by the 57 hospitals managed by Japan Community Health Care Organization. Wholesaler Mediceo, who were among the companies raided in a joint-operation between the JFTC and Tokyo District Prosecutors Office in October, wasn't named in the complaint.The JFTC’s statement, in Japanese, is attached....
