Ondulati del Savio, Toppazzini overturn Italian cardboard cartel fines; Smurfit, Saica lose appeals

( May 25, 2021, 13:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ondulati del Savio has overturned a fine imposed by Italy's competition authority for its role in a cartel on the market for corrugated cardboard sheets. Meanwhile, other suppliers — Smurfit Kappa, Saica Pack Italia, Gifco and Ondulati e Imballaggi del Friuli — saw their legal challenges rejected. In 2019, the AGCM issued fines totaling 287 million euros on a series of businesses for cartel breaches on the markets for corrugated cardboard sheets and corrugated cardboard packaging. Toppazzini also scored a court victory, with judges quashing the penalty imposed on it, court documents show. In rulings made in March, but only published yesterday, judges at a court in Rome dismissed all legal challenges, except those brought by Ondulati del Savio and Toppazzini.The rulings are attached (in Italian)....
