US Senator Wyden condemns Florida social media law

( May 24, 2021, 20:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Senator Ron Wyden issued a statement condemning a new law in Florida regulating social media. “The First Amendment to the United States Constitution – backstopped by Section 230 – makes it abundantly clear that states have no power to compel private companies to host speech," said the Oregon Democrat, who co-authored Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996. The statute shields website from liability when moderating the content of users.
