EU position on Brexit transition has 'fundamental contradiction,' UK says

( February 9, 2018, 16:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The  UK and EU are at odds over a British proposal for a "safeguard mechanism," which would allow the UK to halt the automatic implementation of new EU legislation that it regarded as a threat to its interests. In a press conference today, EU chief negotiator said the demand risks jeopardizing a deal on a transition period, which would start after March 2019. In response. UK Brexit Secretary David Davis said the EU "dismissal" of the plan was "surprising" and "a fundamental contradiction."The statement is below....
