EU requests WTO consultations over punitive US tariffs on solar panels

( February 8, 2018, 16:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU has requested World Trade Organization consultations with the US on compensation for tariffs it imposed on solar panel imports. The EU request identifies Germany as its main exporter to the US and potentially the most affected EU country. The request doesn't initiate WTO dispute proceedings. WTO members have the right to seek compensation from other members for restricting imports under the global trade body's safeguard agreement. China, Korea and Chinese Taipei have submitted similar requests, in addition asking for consultations on US washing machine tariffs.
