DOJ's Caldwell calls for policies addressing encrypted data, foreign partners' access to data

( June 6, 2016, 16:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell delivered remarks at the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Cybercrime Symposium regarding cooperation and electronic evidence gathering across borders. Caldwell emphasized the need for policies that will allow law enforcement to access data on encrypted devices and to give foreign partners access to data stored in the US for legitimate public safety and national security needs. “We should not allow changing technologies or the economic interests of the private sector to overwhelm larger policy issues relating to the needs of public safety and national security,” said Caldwell. Statement follows in full. ...
