Oil, gas industry's commitment to updated methane-emissions reporting program gets support from EU, UN

( November 23, 2020, 16:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A group of oil and gas companies has today agreed upon a new voluntary monitoring and reporting framework to reduce methane emissions, as part of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition initiative led by the UN, the European Commission and the NGO Environmental Defense Fund. The companies pledged to collect data for emissions derived from their joint ventures, on top of their own operations. The mid- and downstream segments of the value chain — namely transportation, processing and refining — will also be covered. The program is meant to serve as the basis for EU legislation that the commission intends to propose next year.Statement follows....
