Malaysia's anti-graft agency opened more bribery probes, made more arrests in 2019

( November 23, 2020, 04:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Malaysia's anti-corruption agency investigated more incidents of bribery and made more related arrests in 2019 than the previous year, according to new statistics. The number of investigations opened by the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission, or MACC, increased 24.7 per cent to 1,039 cases in 2019, according to new data published by the government's Department of Statistics. Notably, investigations into allegations of accepting bribes increased 40.1 percent from 267 in 2018 to 374 in 2019. The number of arrests made by the MACC also increased 23.2 percent over the same period, with arrests specifically linked to allegedly paying bribes up 79 percent. The statement from the Department of Statistics is attached below. ...
